I had a necklace once
you would've thought it was the prettiest thing
cuz yeah it shined in the light
and i guess maybe i was sweet-talked too
but anyway
i had this necklace once
and everyone loved that shining strand
cuz yeah he shined in the light
and i guess maybe i was blind-faced too
but anyway
i had this necklace once
and it could get past anyone undetected
cuz yeah it shined in the light
and i guess maybe i was enchanted too
but anyway
i had this necklace once
and he could twist so many ways around the truth
cuz yeah he shined in the light
and i guess maybe i was frightened too
but anyway
i had this necklace right
and it was choking me in the darkness
cuz yeah it only shined in the light
and i guess maybe i was worthless too
but anyway
i had this necklace once
and it was choking me
i wasn't a brave girl
was just so terribly vain
so i kept wearing it
til the bruises showed
and i finally gave it up
cuz i needed to let go
so i tore it from my neck
and i threw it to the floor
and now when they look at him
their faces don't shine no more
yeah cuz now they see my pretty necklace
not shining in the light
but wrapped around me in the dark
i had this necklace once
you would've thought it was the prettiest thing
but i don't let him like like that anymore.
