Off the cuff:

As I hide in the shadows
I stare into the light
So bright it almost burns my eyes
I'm wishing for the night.

Cause in the darkness I feel safe
No one can hurt me here
If I can't be seen I don't exist
In the shadows there's no fear

But as I sit in darkness
I think and contemplate
Should I not go into the light
Why should I hesitate?

For in the light it's where I might
find what I've been searching for
a love, a friendship, a kind word
Someone that I adore.

I contemplate and realize
that I am affraid
affraid of getting hurt once more
I fear it is too late...

For I've been hurt too many times
I can't deal with the pain
So I'd rather stay in darkness
Then go into the light again.
