War is a terrible thing
There must be a better way
Do we need to orphan children
And widow wives every day?
Throughout history we've tried so hard
To spill our neighbour's blood
To taint each hill and street and beach
With that morbid red flood
But there are times, I'll admit
When needs must send us to war
Then, I salute the courage of those
Who go knocking on death's door
There shall be a service for them
On the morrow at dawn
To celebrate their valiant sacrifice
To remember and to mourn
My knowledge of history is limited
But I know of the attack
The Australia New Zealand Army Corps
The men and women of ANZAC
They fought and died for our way of life
This much is known to me
So I shed a tear and spare a thought
And I remember Gallipolli.
Lest we forget.
Bubonic, wise enough to be greatful that he's too young to remember.
